Wellington Apartments

CSI were recently requested to check the quality of the pile pour at a Wellington apartment development. The following case study details the project requirements, solution and key results and benefits for the client using our pile integrity testing services.

Project Requirements

This was done in 10 stages as the piles were completed.  CSI were given specifications to test 50% of the piles poured before any structure was built on top.  This percentage of testing was selected to give a lot of confidence to the building owner; as to the quality of the pour.  There was minimal preparation as the piles were bare.  This is really where Pile Integrity Testing comes into its’ own!  With minimal fuss and no destruction, piles can be checked; ensuring future stability for the structure.

Solutions

Piles were selected for testing and the top surfaces prepared.  Piles were tested in compliance with ASTM D5882-07, using the Pulse Echo Method.  This was also compatible with AS 2159 – 2009 Appendix D3.

As the testing was done in 10 stages; 10 reports were delivered to the client qualifying the integrity of the piles.  This non-destructive method of checking piles offers a far higher percentage value for money than alternative methods for checking the piles.

Benefits of Solutions

The PIT testing approach, performed by an entirely independent company, gives the building owner, architect, engineer and construction company the ability to continue the development knowing the foundations are secure.  This was Quality Assurance at its’ most effective.
