Water Reservoirs

We were asked to scan the outside of two local water reservoirs in order to gather important information to provide a detailed assessment for each tank. Before we arrived, these reservoirs were being worked on from plans of other reservoirs, so it was really important to collect verified information

Project Requirements

The client needed a few areas scanned and tested in order to obtain an assessment of two concrete water tanks. The following work was completed:

  • GPR/Ferroscanning to confirm and gather information on the reinforcement within the walls, roof, and the connections between them.
  • Schmidt Hammer Testing to determine the compressive strength of the concrete for both water tanks.

Solutions

We started off by scanning the outside of the water tanks to locate any and all reinforcement and determine the type and size. It was absolutely critical that we find the connection details between the roof and the walls as the client wanted to make sure the roof will not slide off in an event of an earthquake. We then began to assess the actual concrete structure by performing a Schmidt Hammer test on both reservoirs. This gave us much needed information on actual strength of the concrete.

Benefits of Solutions

With the success of our scanning and Schmidt Hammer testing, we were able to provide the client with a very accurate and detailed report detailing all the information they were wanting.
