There has been a lot of interest lately in Condition Surveys of concrete and steel structures, this is very heartening (especially given our ‘shaky isles’!!) here in NZ. These Condition Surveys all help in overall Structural Resilience.
There are the initial 6 steps often taken of visual inspection, acoustic test, scanning for concrete
cover, compression tests, chloride tests and half-cell potential tests; but it got us thinking about how innovative technologies might assist with condition surveys?
CSI is hopeful to develop a ‘black box’ technology underway with Callaghan that might help with
assessments of pre-cast flooring. It’s a long road with R & D however …
Here is a quote from Prime Solutions concerning the use of Compressive Tests in checking concrete condition:
“ … testing for compressive strength is often considered the most cost-effective and most reliable solution. In fact, many codes and guidelines consider this the only approved method for evaluating concrete strength. In this case, the concrete core is taken from the existing structure.” Please check out CSI Services to see if we can be of assistance in checking the condition of your concrete and steel structures.
